Yay For Little Sisters!

It's been a hectic week in the best way! I finally got to meet Cory's little sister Autumn when she stayed up here for about a week. I loved getting to know her and seeing how much alike she and Cory are and how much we have in common too! The 3 of us had some great adventures. Hiking, kayaking, visiting the zoo, Despicable Me 2, the indoor waterpark ("H2Oasis" haha) and really good food! Now I'm even more excited to meet the rest of Cory's awesome siblings in (hopefully) just a few months! Here are just a few of the dozens of pictures we took this week...









 
 
 
What makes this week even better is that my little sister Joanna is on a flight to Anchorage as we speak to visit for a week! I'M BEYOND EXCITED!!! I've now been away from home for over 6 weeks which is far past my previous record of 2.5 weeks, so am I more than ready for some family time! I can't wait to share the Alaskan adventures that we will endeavor together :)

Henry's Birth Story

Well, it's been nearly 6 years since I've posted a blog! So much has happened in that time including the birth of our second son. Even though I don't update this site anymore, Henry deserves a spot in this series! April 9, 2021 I’ve been meaning to document Henry’s birth story all these years but haven’t prioritized it till now. Part of the reason was that it wasn’t dramatic or very eventful the way Hunter’s was, so it felt like less of a “story” to tell. However, it’s OUR story - Henry’s and mine. And I’ve come to realize that a “birth story” can be so much more than just how a person enters the world. No one’s story is exactly like someone else’s, and each one is special in its own way. It’s like the perspective of being a labor and delivery nurse in regards to the question of “do births become less special when you’ve seen so many of them?”. First Snow: Check!

It happened. It snowed. It snowed back in Aril when I was just visiting, but this was the real thing where it stuck all over the trees and cars and ground. September 23rd, first snow of the season, and I lived! Plus, it had melted by the next day. The mountains are GORGEOUS though! After that random bout of winter, fall took over. It doesn't get warmer than 50, the leaves are changing color and falling, and it's raining more often than not. I'm not gonna lie...I've really been enjoying my new stylish coats and drinking chai tea lattes on a regular basis. Cory and I took a short drive to Birchwood where we explored Beach Lake and caught these views... If only this season would last longer than a month. The freezing cold (aka the age of darkness) is on it's way, but I'm doing my best to take in my surroundings now without dwelling so much on what's to come. Where Are We? Aska!

    There's something uniquely special about watching your sibling be a parent. I love my sister so dearly, and now I get to see her love this little girl who loves her back immensely. It's surreal and beautiful. Needless to say, I was beyond thrilled to have them up here for a whole week! It just so happened to be the coldest week of the season yet (lots of snow and -1 degrees at one point!), but we still had the best time together! Ben joined us later on in the week and added even more happiness :) We played in the snow as much as we could, went sledding, ate really well, drank lots of Starbucks, played games, enjoyed the cozy fireplace, and saw breathtaking views that you would NEVER see in Phoenix!   I know how people get really annoyed when people go on and on gushing about their kids, but this is my niece, so it's different.
